Manager Sun Ja Jung receives an Presidential Award
for 20 years` commitment
Sun Ja Jung, who is a project manager of Miral Welfare Foundation and running Hanbyul School in Ethiopia, is going to receive Presidential Global Volunteering Award at the Development Assistance Day on the coming 25th.
She has implemented education for children in poverty and relief effort, provided meal and medical service by establishing and managing school in Africa for 20 years.
She started her initial activity in Langano province, Ethiopia in August 1993. She provided meals to the children suffering from malnutrition at heath center for seven years. Meals were provided to the children, dying due to lack of nutrition in order to improve their health status by providing nutritional meal.
Throughout those activities, she has experienced that small help becoming a big miracle; case of one child, who could not walk due to malfunction, was able to walk again by nutritional meal and one patient, who was left alone in small room, restored to health just by being in the sunlight,
Since 2002, she has implemented transporting patients and supporting medical expenses during her stay in Yabelo, Ethiopia for three years. She also helped patients by visiting the resident`s home located in rural area, which is adjacent borderline of Kenya.
While she was seeking a better way to change the future of Ethiopia, she came up with "education" as a solution and started establishing and managing Hanbyul School from year 2005. As a result, Hanbyul school could start school with 180 student who attended kindergarten and first grade in September 2006 after one year of making a purchase on the school site and establishing school. She also made financial support system and scholarship for the students who had financial difficulties in order to improve their concentration on school.
During the establishment of the school, she had to make personal debt to finish the construction. But miracally, she could pay all of her debt. When there was a financial difficulties in school, Miral Welfare Foundation started donating. In 2013, Hanbyul School has 900 students attending kindergarden to middle school.
Hanbyul School, which Soon Ja Jung has put effort in, has was awarded with the Best Award from Dila CIty and the best School Award of Southern Ethiopia in 2012.
