In this unusually hot weather, Grain Foundation for PWD Inc. opened Dunamai Cafe in late July in 2018, in Philippines Manila.
Dunamai Cafe was opened for Vocational training and providing job for the people with disability. Dunamai means ‘I can do it’ or ‘had ability’ in Greek, so it was quoted for speaking out that the people with disability can do everything. In Dunamai Cafe, there are total 9 workers like 2 physically disabled, 3 developmental disabled, 3 hearing impaired people and 1 manager who is non disabled.They are working together as assisting each other, for instance, they could develop their own sign language on the name of menu in order to let themselves communicate easily. After the endless efforts, they also got a national Philippines' barista certificate.
On the day of opening the Dunamai Cafe, there were lots of local visitors and ABS-CBN which is a national broad casting studio. They showed high interests on the Dunamai Cafe. The members of the cafe are looking forward to open their second branch of Dunamai Cafe for the other disabled to live confidently as a member of the society. In Philippines, Grain Foundation for PWD Inc., has been trying to make the community without any discrimination on the disability as providing vocational rehabilitation education, operating special school and providing follow up service from education up to recruitment or individual business. "Disability is not the thing to be overcome. Disability is the thing to be integrated through sharing in the community." With this slogan, Grain Foundation for PWD Inc. will keep trying to do best for making the community being lived together. |
